UNSW Industrial Design Students Explore Krost Manufacturing and Design Process

October 16, 2024

We recently had the pleasure of hosting industrial design students from UNSW for a factory tour at our Smithfield manufacturing facility.

The afternoon started with a warm welcome before we guided the students through our office, warehouse and machinery.

During the tour, we provided an in-depth look at how we approach design from concept to completion. We showcased our entire design process, starting with initial ideas, followed by prototyping and testing, and finally moving into the production stage, highlighting how our machinery plays a crucial role in bringing our designs to life.

The students were highly engaged, asking thoughtful questions throughout the tour.

We also gave the students a firsthand look at our warehousing solutions and systems, and how these support our day-to-day operations. It was great to see their interest in how design can evolve from a concept into a fully realised product, especially through our local manufacturing processes.

We wrapped up the visit with light refreshments, which gave the students an opportunity to further interact with our team and discuss various aspects of commercial design and furniture production.

The visit was a fantastic opportunity for us to connect with the future generation of designers and to inspire them with the practical and creative aspects of our industry. We hope this experience helped spark new ideas and excitement for their future careers in design!

Krost's Sydney Office Update With 3D Tour: A Blueprint For Workplace Design

December 20, 2023

Our latest Sydney office renovation was more than just an aesthetic upgrade, it's a reflection of modern work culture —flexible, intuitive, and inherently human-centric. To achieve this, we set our goal to design a space that caters to diverse work styles, settings and needs.

Throughout the space, strategically placed meeting and breakout rooms foster collaboration and spontaneous interactions. Our Remi counter table serves as a hub for impromptu catch-ups, while the curve of our Sofi ottomans create a welcoming space for informal chats.

Each room is named and can be easily booked in our calendar system:

The Loft - A feature collaborative space in our Mascot office, carefully designed to offer a dynamic environment tailored for both brief stand-up huddles and teamwork-driven sessions.

The Arena - Embodies our commitment to being at the forefront of furniture design and innovation by integrating modern tech into specially designed, functional furniture.

The Hub - A quiet space that offers a refreshing change from the workstation zone, providing a focused work environment for teams looking for a change.

The Home Suite - A perfect blend of comfort and function, where private chats and casual catch-ups combine seamlessly with productivity, away from the buzz of the office.

The Booth - Intentionally designed to nurture a collaborative and undistracted environment, perfect for brief touchpoints or extensive brainstorming sessions.

The Nook - For hyper-focused task immersion, tailored for small offices, it cleverly maximises efficiency without compromising on style.

Highlighted in the centre of the office is our new Clic workstation, featuring a sleek black rounded profile and a Coastal Oak Woodmatt worktop from Polytec. To enhance privacy and infuse greenery into the workspace, we've incorporated custom joinery planter boxes that elegantly divide the workstations, as well as our Cubby planters at the foot of the desks.

Our open workstation area is equipped with Archi chairs, meticulously crafted for supreme ergonomic comfort and flexibility. Complementing this setup is a dynamic hot desking spine, flanked by planter box lockers. This not only introduces a touch of greenery but also provides personalised storage for our staff.

Experience our complete office transformation from beginning to end here and explore our Sydney showroom today through the immersive 3D tour below.

Blending History and Modernity at Melbourne's Iconic Skipping Girl Building

August 29, 2023

Melbourne, a city where every corner has a story, and every brick holds a secret. One such tale belongs to the Skipping Girl building on 651 Victoria St, Abbotsford Victoria.

This building is not just any landmark. It is fondly known to locals as the home of the famous "Skipping Girl Vinegar" neon sign, a dazzling symbol since the 1930s. Once a beacon for a popular vinegar brand, it has since become a cultural icon, symbolising Melbourne's evolution from an industrial hub to a modern metropolis.

Today, the Skipping Girl building has turned a new chapter. The Stem Group has breathed fresh life into this architectural gem, infusing it with raw urban elements coupled with the sophisticated flair of the modern age.

The result is a space that is both timeless and contemporary, a place where old tales meet new dreams.

From the moment you step inside, you are greeted by the Casali reception counter, which gracefully bows with its radial curve. The backdrop of aged brick walls, witness to decades of Melbourne's growth, is complemented by the modern Stecca Wood panelling in a Notaio Walnut finish. Add the tactile warmth of the Soba chairs wrapped in khaki boucle wool, and you're in for a sensory treat.

Moving through the space, the Benchwork executive desk provides contemporary sophistication, accentuated by our Sonic task chair and the ever-vibrant Mali Chair in green.

The heart of the office beats at the Benchwork and Swish workstations, framed by Arc screens that offer both privacy and a glimpse into creative minds at work. Nestled amidst this, the black Globe sliding door cupboards, adorned with planters, lend a green touch.

Natural light floods the staff area, where our Merge D-end counter table and Calvin chairs beckon for a coffee break chat. One can almost hear the laughter of yesteryears blending with today's banter.

In essence, the rejuvenated Skipping Girl building is a space where history and modernity meet in perfect harmony. It is a place where creativity and innovation can thrive, and where new stories can be written.

So, next time you're in Melbourne, be sure to skip (pun intended!) inside and take a journey through time.
